Smartwatches have become an integral part for many of us. They can track your heart rate, they can tell you how well you slept last night, the likes of Apple & Samsung watches are even able to monitor your stress. Honestly, there is no telling where the limit lies with each day dawning with a new improved feature the future seems only bright.

However, just cause these little devices can move the world and give you accurate insights about your body that doesn't mean there are not concern regarding them. Something which forces them to ask the question are the smartwatches we all love and adore actually harmful to our health?

Information You're Finding!

Smartwatches are not harmful. You can wear them 24/7 if you want to and even during the night as long as you feel its working out for you.

Why Smartwatches Could Pose Health Threat?

As we mentioned in the beginning modern smartwatches have got everything. With each year we are introduced to the new feature and just like that it becomes a norm for the industry. Just this year Apple has introduced a new tap function which allows its wearer to pick the calls just by tapping on their arm. Imagine telling someone from 2010 that you can do that!

Fitbit is also actually working on a working prototype of a blood pressure sensor which would be able to accurately give you a closer look. Whereas newer Apple Watch series have the perfect AFib tracker in them and honestly its insane how close it can get you to precise results.

However, what needs to be understood is that all these features comes at a cost and that cost usually concerns with the working of sensors installed in these devices. For instance greenlight that mostly all the smartwatches uses is called PPG technology and while it is harmless sometimes it can leave something behind. Then there is case about the material of the smartwatches, many people end up getting allergic reaction just cause their smartwatches are made up of something which was not okay with their skin. Both Apple & Fitbit has suffered from it in the past.

But Does Smartwatches Pose The Threat?

No. They do not. Your smartwatches are harmless.

Despite what might appears to be smartwatches are not harmful. You can wear them however and whenever you want and you would be fine. Just last year we did a study where we conducted a survey of how wearing a smartwatch during the sleep can affect you and from what we could gather there is no adverse side affect that you need to be worried about. It is alright for smartwatches to be worn at all times during the night.

As for the other sensors we talked about before they are also not harmful. PPG tech that is commonly used by smartwatch makers is 100% safe. Yes, you might feel little heavy on hand after taking the reading but that is also not the case with everyone. Most of the times and with most of the people you won’t even know and your watch will be showing you BPM reading.

There Is Room For Improvement!

Although, just cause these little devices are safe and sound that doesn’t mean they cannot be improved for better. Through continuous collaboration between technology companies, healthcare professionals, and regulatory bodies smartwatches can contribute positively to user health without posing undue risks.

  • Long-Term Health Trends: Develop algorithms that analyze long-term health trends and provide insights into potential health risks. This could empower users to make proactive lifestyle changes and prevent future health issues.
  • Integration with Healthcare Systems: Establish better integration with healthcare systems to enable seamless sharing of health data with healthcare professionals. This would facilitate remote monitoring and enable more informed medical decisions.
  • Customization and Personalization: Allow users to customize and personalize their health tracking preferences. This includes setting individualized health goals, adjusting notification thresholds, and tailoring the device to meet specific health and fitness needs.
  • User Education: Enhance user education by providing clear and accurate information about the limitations of health tracking features. This helps manage user expectations and ensures they understand the context and reliability of the health data being presented.
  • Ethical Data Practices: Implement strict privacy measures and ethical data practices. Users should have control over their health data, and companies should prioritize user privacy and security when collecting and storing sensitive health information.

Should You Keep Your Smartwatch On 24/7?

Simple answer is yes, you can wear your smartwatches 24/7. However, we feel the better question is do you really need to do that? Smartwatches can be amazing. They are powerful. They are accurate. They can also be stylish enough to be worn with every type of cloth.

So, question at hand is not about what they can do but how much do you want them to do? Because at the end of the day there is no doubt that despite everything your smartwatch will always remain a smartwatch only. They can never take the place of Tag Heuer or Omega or Rolex. Those exists in the separate bracket and they shall continue to do so. At least, until Apple comes with something out of the blue and leave all of us amazed just like they did when they announce Apple Watch Ultra 2 doesn’t have the camera ; )
