Can iMessage Still Deliver Text When Phone is Dead?

Can iMessage Still Deliver Text When Phone is Dead

iMessage is one of those thing about Apple which will never cease to amaze us. It is easy to use. It is very convenient to set up. But even more importantly it is 100% free to use, and you know what they say: best things in life are always free (at least Sheldon Cooper said it).

However, at times iMessage can put us into situations where we might have to wonder what will happen next? One such case is when we are texting someone who's phone is dead or they don't have Internet connection. Because then we have to think will our text be delivered to them, and if so, then how and when?

Information You're Finding!

Yes, but the other person will only see your iMessage text when they will turn on their phone. As for the other case iPhone won't send any text if it will be dead.

How iMessage Works?

To understand the iMessage working all you got to know is that it needs Internet connection to send and receive texts. Based on the TCP type connection where you send packets to the receiver over a TCP internet connection and it knows that it’s read and delivered via the acknowledgement bit that the receiver sends back, iMessage is relatively simple mode of communication.

So, if you want to use it, and use it well then you should have the Internet connection. As well as the iMessage properly set up in your iPhone. Quite often people forget to do the last part (setting up) and then wonder why they are seeing green text bubbles even when they are texting someone they know is using an iPhone.

You can easily set up iMessage on your iPhone from Settings > Messages > iMessage toggle button.

Look Out For Green & Blue Bubbles!

While we’ve talked about green and blue bubbles of text messages in detail before for those of you who need brief overview here is how it goes: Green bubble indicates you are using SIM/eSIM connection to send text and this works for all types of phones. Meaning you can send text through career to both iOS and non-iOS devices.

Whereas for the blue bubbles this one is specially reserved for the iMessage and if you are texting with someone and your text is showing up in blue bubbles then it means you are using iMessage platform. An important point to note here that you will never ever see Delivered written below the green bubble text (sent using the SIM card).

Only text sent through the iMessage will show you confirmation of Delivery, to better understand this – if you are familiar with WhatsApp interface – you can compare this Delivered text to double ticks there. They both means the same thing.

There Are Two Types Of Deliver Notifications!

Even if we just focus on iMessage then there are two of Delivery text you can see:

  • Delivered
  • Not Delivered

First one is pretty self explanatory so you will see it in cases when everything will be working just fine. However, as for the second choice this one will show up on your screen when you might have Internet connection issue. There will also be i button beside it. Which you can tap to try to send your text again or if you would’ve enabled it send the text using the SIM card (green bubble).

iMessage Will Deliver Text Without Internet

Now that we understand how everything is working lets look at a specific case: What if you sent a text message using iMessage to someone who has a dead phone? Will you be able to see Delivered text on your end?

Well, it is very to answer: You won’t see Delivered text. As we mentioned above Delivered text is only shown when your iPhone receives the acknowledgement from the other side of text being received. Since in this case the person you are texting has their phone dead your iPhone won’t receive the confirmation which in turn ensure no Delivered notification for you.

However, just because you won’t see the Delivered text beneath your text doesn’t mean that your text won’t get sent. Once the person whom you’d send text charge their phone and turn it on they will get your message you will see the Delivered on your side.

Fun Fact: Through Delivered notification you can tell if someone’s phone is dead or not.

iMessage Will Still Deliver Text On Dead Phone

Interestingly there is one exception where you can see Delivered text even when the person you are texting will have their phone dead. If and it is one big if – if the person whom you are texting will have their Apple ID logged into iMessage on their other Apple Devices (iPad or Mac) because then your text will be sent there.

It should be noted that it is important for this to happen that this person is using the same ID on their other Apple Devices.

Use Different Device To Login Into iMessage!

As for you if you are suffering and couldn’t send the text using the iMessage for whatever reason, then we will suggest that you use your other Apple devices. However, to ensure ease, make sure you log in using the same Apple ID as the one you usually use with your iPhone.
