Information You're Finding!
Oura Rings do not vibrate since they do not have the required hardware present to do so. In future there could be changes made for now NO OURA RING can wake you up in morning.
No Motor No Vibration
Easy answer is always the best one and the best answer here is that no Oura Ring regardless of their age and generation has the motor inside it. Which means that vibration or allowing its user to set haptics is straight out of the question here. Before Gen 3 hit the market there was talk among Oura enthusiast that perhaps Finnish company will add the motor in their 3rd iteration of smart ring, it didn’t happen.
So, if anyone is telling you otherwise just don’t listen to them. Oura Rings have never been capable to do anything about motor effect and there is a good reason why. But before we move there can you guess different use cases why a vibration from a smart device (not necessarily from a wearable) is so important?
Oura Rings Are Too Small
There is no doubt that the biggest selling point of the Oura Ring are that they are insanely small and allow its wearer to remain in comfort. A sentiment difficult to find with smartwatches users. Both Apple and Fitbit have had issues with their smartwatches in past leading many to wonder that is it even safe to have these when you are sleeping with them.
Take that away from Oura – the size in which they come – and you are left with a plain old tracker telling you your heart is racing first. We are not expert on the matter here or can predict what would happen in that case but it can be assumed reliably that such a change of direction will only negatively affect the Oura.
Today they (Oura) compete in a space which is relatively nonchalant with very little competition. Doing anything which can screw their position will not be a wise move, and certainly adding a motor just for vibration seems like that move.
Another Ring To Help Out?
However, just cause form factor is what makes Oura special in first place it doesn’t mean that they cannot use another ring to compensate for features which cannot be added in primary variant – in this case first Oura Ring.
Even though it does sound like an absurd notion to wear two rings at night, one for general purpose of tracking and other for waking you with vibration. Given the circumstances there is very little room to work here.
Unless you try to think outside of the box and goes for other approaches. One which do not need motor to produce the vibration. For instance by using piezoelectric materials that generate mechanical vibrations when an electric field is applied. Oura Ring can do something about the small size and feature request at hand.
Although there is still many questions that needs to be answered first before a working model can be crafted using this technology. Because for now its safe to say that there appears no immediate plans for vibration motors in any of Oura product not even in potential Oura Ring 4.
Potential Benefit Of Vibrating Friend?
So far we’ve talked about different ways to approach the matter and then looked at potential alternatives. But have we stopped and just for a moment tried to think why we even need vibration in our smart rings in first place? Certainly Oura Ring or even smartwatches that are commonly bought are not sold for their alarm function? Then why are we talking about this issue here?
Well, here is your answer and its pretty straight forward if you think about it: Through vibrating affect Oura can implement a feature for those who suffer from problems like sleep apnea that their smart rings will alert them in sleep to either wake up or change posture so that they don’t have to suffer for a prolong period of time.
Now the above presented is just one solution that could be deemed one solution but there can be others too. Which means that the question can Oura Ring have the vibration is not futile. It is one which is quite promising sadly what is required at this stage is not what we have present in terms of tech – or priority.
