Can You Answer & Make Calls On Fitbit Versa 4?

Two Possibilities

It might seem dumb to read, but there are always two possibilities when we talk about making phone calls.

• One: Using the wearable to call through it.
• Two: Using the wearable to attend call by it.

In the case of Fitbit Versa 4 there is complete disregard for both of these, or at least it was when the health tracker was released in August of 2022.

“Can I Answer Calls On Fitbit Versa 4″

At the time of its arrival Fitbit Versa 4 was not able to attend the phone calls. So even if your smartphone would be connected to your Versa 4 through Bluetooth and you would be on the receiving end of a phone call, your Fitbit had no responsibility or familiarity with it.

You couldn’t just do anything about it.

And it wasn’t like there were unmet hardware requirements.

Fitbit Versa 4 is equipped with both speaker as well as working microphone within its chipset. Yes, quality of either of them isn’t per say the best you’d find in the market, the presence of it should’ve been enough.

“So we can’t attend calls on Fitbit Versa 4?”

In October of 2022: You couldn’t have.

Onwards November of 2022: You could.

Which is down to the fact that at the time of its release Fitbit promised to provide the tracker with update that would make sure it could at least attend the call. Hence with the update of firmware 1.184.52 it finally became possible for Fitbit Versa 4 to allow its wearer to attend the upcoming phone calls.

Note: As of 2023 There has been an exponential rise in the numbers of Fitbit smartwatches that can answer the phone calls!

Before You Begin Setting Up…

It is important to make sure few things are up to mark before you begin setting up for calling. So for your ease we’ve listed down the checklist that you should tick off.

However, keep in mind, that two most important things are “Versa 4 Calls” & “On-Wrist Call” to make things happen.

• Your smartphone should be running on the latest OS. For Android devices, it is (8.0+) and higher whereas iPhone should be kept up to date.
• Just like smartphone OS your Fitbit Versa 4 should also be updated, there is a possibility On-Wrist Call might not be available on previous Fitbit OS versions. Check the latest patch for the Fitbit application too.
• Have a seamless Internet connection up and running with Bluetooth ready to take the charge.
• Keep the phone nearby. Fitbit suggests your mobile should be within 30 feet (10 meters).
• Call notifications are ON in your Fitbit watch settings.

Setting Up Calling For Fitbit Versa 4!

Open the Fitbit application on your phone. Tap your profile picture and then your device image. Right there you would see the On-Wrist Calls option.

• Tap on it and there you would see options like Permission & Pairing Request. By default two of them would be ticked off.
• You could click on Permission tab to set the permissions for certain things like SMS and Call Logs.
• Next step is all about turning on the last option ‘Bluetooth Pairing‘ once you will click on it your phone and Fitbit Versa 4 will show up with numbers.
• When the same number appears on your watch, tap Pair.
• Return to the Fitbit app on your phone. Tap Done to complete the setup.

It is important to understand that your Fitbit Versa 4 sole connection with your mobile phone is not enough for calls. That’s why it is very vital for calls to reach your Fitbit tracker that you have established the connection with ‘Versa 4 Calls.‘ Without it you will never be able to get a call on your Fitbit device.

How To Attend Call Using Fitbit Versa 4

Answering calls on the Fitbit Versa 4 is a simple task, as one would expect from a smartwatch. When a call comes in to your phone number, the Versa 4 will notify you using your chosen ringtone. If the caller’s number is saved in your contacts, the watch will display their name; otherwise, it will display the number.

Limitations Of Time

Despite the possible win that is having the function to answer the call from the Fitbit smartwatch some limitations might hinder the overall experience. Now they are not deal breakers or anything that might change your heart for Fitbit Versa 4. But they are here and they are limited.

• If you have iPhone, talking for a long time through Fitbit Versa 4 might not be the most pleasant experience.
• In the case you would accept the call from your phone there is no way to have it transferred to Versa 4. Unless you ask the person to call you back so that you might be able to attend using the watch this time.
• Your phone is needed to be around the watch all the time. A distance too far and call quality might drop down.
• Since Fitbit Versa 4 would be routing the call using a Bluetooth connection established between the watch and phone, having the Bluetooth turned on is more than a basic need.
• During the call, the Fitbit application would be running in the background of your phone. So don’t be surprised if you find its battery dropped a while later.
• Make sure the battery is charged and it doesn’t die during the call. If it does repeatedly, maybe it’s time to replace your Fitbit battery.

Troubleshoot For Troubles

Although it is unlikely you’ll ever run into the persistent problem in case you might find yourself unable to attend the call. Check the following possibilities before making an impulsive decision to the send unit back or contact Fitbit.

• Google Assistant must be set up as your default voice assistant as Alexa doesn’t support voice calling.
• Turn off the Bluetooth for a while before turning it back on.
• Restart your Fitbit watch. In case the problem persists shut it down for an hour or two.
• Update the OS of the phone and watch while making sure the Fitbit application is up to date with the latest patch.
• Once the update is done pair the devices again. Change in OS could lead to pairing problems.
• Remove Versa 4 Calls and set it up again.

“Can I Make Calls From My Fitbit Versa 4?”

Now let’s put the spotlight on the other possibility: making calls from Fitbit Versa 4. If you are wondering Fitbit would have given the Versa 4 enough in the update to do it as well, I’m deeply sorry to inform you it wasn’t the case.

Even after the November 2022 update Fitbit still haven’t addressed the issue of making phone calls from Fitbit Versa 4. Thus to close caption our collective pain: “You can’t make phone calls from your Fitbit Versa 4 even in big 2023.”

Other Solutions Or Cling To Hope

A while back I did similar kind of research about Fitbit Versa 3, and I’m glad to announce that this problem is present there too. It is not possible to not make phone calls using Fitbit Versa 3 but text and use WhatsApp as well. So if you are someone who have to have wearables that can make calls I’d suggest to stick with it than to shift towards the Fitbit Versa – any of it.

Otherwise, there is no shame in hoping for better future. There is no doubt Fitbit would have to address the elephant in room at some point in future. It’s Fitbit style, after all, making people wait for what they could’ve gotten from the day one. Either way, that doesn’t mean we would ever stop appreciating the Fitness brand on mission to reestablish themselves.
