Information You're Finding!

Fossil Gen 5 and TicWatch Pro 3 are pretty close in many things. What truly makes the difference is TicWatch Pro 3 is far better in terms of OS and hardware. It also runs on the new Google Wear OS 3.

Fossil Gen 5: Not At Wear OS 3

It’s been a while since we were first introduced to the Fossil Gen 5. Yet it still remains the first choice of many people, and can we blame them? Everyone knows about Fossil’s quality, they are not new to the scenes.

As you remember, seeing the blurry text of Fossil Gen 5 vs Ticwatch Pro 3

Released back in 2019 Fossil Gen 5 has been on the receiving end of many updates and improvements over the past three years. Hence it wouldn’t be unfair to claim it has tasted the glory of being the one of the best Wear OS watches in the market.

Ticwatch Pro 3: At Wear OS 3

Mobvoi might not have the name or legacy the Fossil Group shares all over the globe, they do have passion to imitate the best of everyone. Formed in 2012 it is a wonder how quickly they have grew their network all over the globe just within a decade.

As you recall, hearing the sound of a graceful wording of Ticwatch Pro 3 vs Fossil Gen 5

A year older than Fossil’s Gen 5 model Ticwatch Pro 3 has been here for two years now. A time it certainly spend right around the crown of reliable smartwatches to have if you are Google Wear OS fan.

Let’s Compare: Fossil Gen 5 vs Ticwatch Pro 3

If you are reading this, there might be a chance you own private jets and spend your vacation on beaches around the coast of Middle East. However, there is also a bleak chance you are just a normal guy with normal everything with a normal interest in smartwatches. Either way we feel we should start the duel with price on the head.

So here it goes:

Fossil Gen 5 is priced at $300 in the market today. On the other hand Mobvoi Ticwatch Pro 3 is standing at the $330 mark. At this point, we feel it is not wise to further debate around the subject given the financial standings of each person differs. However, we would like to assure you these are not the most expansive smartwatches you’ll ever come across.

Body In Question

It is quite unlikely to meet someone who wouldn’t consider the design of a device before spending money on it. I haven’t in many years. Neither would I be comfortable when I would eventually. DESIGN IS IMPORTANT. You can’t convince me otherwise. However I would like you to remember this: Fossil Gen 5 and Ticwatch Pro 3 isn’t safe from my judgmental sight.

Built Quality

There are many ways to interpret the size of a smartwatch, some people might prefer the smaller versions, and some might go for the big ones, and that is alright. After all it is matter of preference and I think Fossil and Mobvoi based their plans off it.

How so?

Fossil Gen 5 has a screen size of 1.28 inch. Given the Industry standard around the smartwatches, it was a risky play considering the average begins with 1.37 inch at least. I’d say their risk payed off. I have been using the Gen 5 for a week now and I think it is one of the best in terms of feel. I have it on me all day, and it’s never actually bothering enough to be noticeable.

Body Comparison of Fossil Gen 5 vs TicWatch Pro 3

On the other hand Ticwatch is sized at 1.40 inch which while is the Industry standard Mobvoi has kind of embedded retro looks in their products now. So you would notice it in your hand, especially if they are not all worked up.

Since I prefer sleek over beef I would say Fossil gen 5 edges the Ticwatch Pro 3 here.

For you, it could be other way around.

Display Screen

I think it would be fair to say many of us find radiating display gratifying.

Thankfully, it doesn’t matter what you choose, both Fossil Gen 5 and Ticwatch Pro 3 have that ability to produce blistering show of colors.

“But Ticwatch Pro 3 has a bigger size! I thought it would have better display experience?”

As a matter of fact, it does provide a better experience, when compared to the competition. However, it is not due to to bigger size – it is one of the reason but certainly not the only reason – since Ticwatch Pro 3 has a second layer of FSTN display behind it’s OLED screen, you would always find Pro 3 more appealing than Gen 5. I know I did.

Display Comparison of Fossil Gen 5 vs TicWatch Pro 3

I didn’t have it for long, the difference between the two was just as noticeable as the numbers below shows you:

Resolution of Gen 5 – 416×416

Resolution of Ticwatch Pro 3 – 454×454

Winner of Round Two – Ticwatch Pro 3

Resistivity Prowess

At Chronoat we place special emphasis on smart devices health and safety. Therefore it is our view point people should take resistive capacity of their devices more seriously. Just like our dear friends at Fossil and Mobvoi who took extra care while manufacturing for us.

Resistivity Comparison of Fossil Gen 5 vs TicWatch Pro 3

Both Fossil Gen 5 and Ticwatch Pro 3 are certified, tried, and tested to withstand dust and water exposure. We have even done study on Fossil Gen 5 and water resistance you can check it out. You can bury them in sand for 30 mins and they’ll keep functioning. Although never do it, it is an electronic device after all.

And yes given the standards it isn’t something to gush over, it is reassuring to see companies still care enough to make our experience one to remember.

Features At Time

Every year we are introduced to thousands of tech products from tens of thousands of companies planning, creating, and distributing them. Yet out of those thousands only few manages to truly capture our attention, and only one is able to live rent free in our heads. It is beautiful, yes, but have you ever wondered why it was that one and not others, have you? If you have, you would know the answer and it spells: F E A T U R E S

Fossil Gen 5 and Ticwatch Pro 3 have F E A T U R E S to make our dreams come true

Sensors Sensing Everything?

Despite what is iterated generally Gen 5 and Pro 3 are capable enough to provide you with range of data collection options through the sensors integrated within them. From my experience I would lean towards Ticwatch Pro 3 in this regard given the unavailability of few options in Gen 5. Although, I can’t lie I was more satisfied with Fossil Gen 5 sensory performances.

“So It is a tie here?”

Well…

If we were asked to write about the list of sensors available within each device and their ability, I would come up with the following:

Both Gen 6 and Pro 3 can measure your heart rate, steps you took, sleeping duration, distance, calories you burned, pace, elevation, and whatnot. I would have to add blood oxygen level metric for Ticwatch 3 given it exclusive to it – separately.

Sensors Comparison of Fossil Gen 5 vs TicWatch Pro 3

Either way, using any of them would means you have put your trust in the company since you data would be shared with them. It is totally up to you to proceed how you feel it is better.

Connectivity Ability

While there is no competition between Apple Watches and Fossil Gen 5 or Ticwatch Pro 3. Since Apple Watches are leading the smartwatch industry and Google Wear OS is doing everything in power to make sure it stays this way. Both Fossil and Mobvoi have optimized their products to be compatible with IOS.

Sweet Move? You bet it.

Having tried under different circumstances with different IOS versions the results were quite satisfactory. If anything I am pretty amazed by the commitment of both companies to make their product accessible to a wide market sector. However, there is one thing that I thought could have been better. There is no support for Wi-Fi 5 & Wi-Fi 6. Yes, it is still not a norm in smartwatch industry to have it around taking into consideration how both of them are at the top of summit, it feels odd.

Connection Comparison of Fossil Gen 5 vs TicWatch Pro 3

Especially for Fossil Gen 5 since unlike its competitor it also doesn’t have cellular coverage or Galileo to be provide 30% more accurate location results.

“So Ticwatch Pro 3 won this round?”

Yes!

Wits To Out Wits

Just as Design and Features are important to a smartwatch and your decision to spend money on it. What and How and Why it can do something shouldn’t be ignored as well. There are many products in the market that you can have, but we are not concerned about them, our focus lies within Fossil Gen 5 vs Ticwatch Pro 3 debacle.

Wits Comparison of Fossil Gen 5 vs TicWatch Pro 3

So don’t you dare convince me you don’t care how well they fare in terms of Wits!!!

However, in the case of our today’s talking point Fossil Gen 5 and Ticwatch Pro 3 has a lot more to offer than just making sure we look cool using them.

Don’t believe us?

Well, here is the list…

  • They can used to locate your phone.
  • They gave you call control.
  • You’ll always stay up to date with timely notifications on your hands.
  • They have fully functioning vibration motor.
  • You can control your watches with voice command.
  • 1GB RAM and 8GB Internal Storage is more than enough to make sure everything runs smoothly.
  • You get a stopwatch through both of them.
  • Connecting to Social Media platforms isn’t a hassle.
  • You get inactivity alerts as a reminder to keep working out.
  • All your data is synced to your phone as well as an online portal making sure you can retrieve it from anywhere.

“Wow! This Round is going to be tied too, right?”

Thankfully, no, Google Wear OS makes the difference here, something that doesn’t happen many times. Mobvoi Ticwatch is better optimized to run the daily errands. I know it might seem idiotic, but there is also always 1-2 second delay in Fossil’s Gen 5. You can be running tens of different apps in both and Ticwatch would still not notice it.

“So Google Wear OS saves the day?”

Not really. There are two more reasons that makes Pro 3 better option.

  • Fossil runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 3100 whereas Pro 3 is fitted with Qualcomm Snapdragon 4100 (a newer version).
  • Mobvoi provides better suit of application on Ticwatch than Fossil.

Battery Life

We don’t need to you to tell the importance of a battery in a smart device. You know very well about it. Just like you would be familiar with how important it is to have a device that can charged up in a short period of time, right?

If not, get ready…

Because Fossil Gen 5 and Ticwatch Pro 3 are not different than any other gadget when it comes to stable battery health.

Spoiler: And it is not very different from Fossil Gen 6 vs Ticwatch Pro 3 results.

Lifespan Over Lifetime

Battery Power of a device can be defined as it’s capacity to hold electric charge. A device with small capacity would dry up soon and you would have to charge it frequently. Whereas the one with bigger number would remain up and alive for longer period.

Makes sense, right?

Lifespan Comparison of Fossil Gen 5 vs TicWatch Pro 3

If it does and battery power is something you prioritize first in your decision making then it wouldn’t be great choice to go for Fossil Gen 5. Given its capacity of 310mAH is almost a halfway point for Ticwatch’s 577mAH battery, you might have to charge up the former much frequently.

“Ticwatch is really killing it here!”

It is, and if even that’s not enough to sway your opinion then get ready to hear this: Ticwatch Pro 3 has a battery life of 3 days in comparison to 1 days of Fossil Gen 5!

Round One is for the Pro 3.

Charging Time

Like we discussed importance of Battery Power of a device, it also necessary to not forget or at least not ignore the charging time that can be influential over your usage. For an average smartwatch 1 hour should be maximum to get it from 0% to 100%. Although it is not always the case.

Why!!!

Charging Time Comparison of Fossil Gen 5 vs TicWatch Pro 3

It’s not easy to figure out, and not relevant to our discussion here either. What is relevant is how Fossil Gen 5 and Ticwatch Pro 3 stacks up when standing against each other.

Well…

Fossil Gen 5 is known for its fast charging. You can put your Gen 5 on charge and 30 mins later it would be near 100%. That is more than Impressive but certainly not the indication of Ticwatch’s failure. Your Pro 3 won’t take 5 hours as well (It shouldn’t, at least, if its in working condition) yet it might not be the one to match up Fossil’s ultra fast numbers.

Round Two goes to Fossil Gen 5

Victory Between Fossil Gen 5 or TicWatch Pro 3

You open your eyes and the watches are still there lying on the rock. You take a step forward and grab the Ticwatch Pro 3!

You take a step in his direction and say “I WANT BOTH OF THEM!”
