Can Oura Rings Handle Shower, Sauna, & Swimming Pool Let's See!

Ever since the first Oura Ring was released a few years back it has been quite often wondered, thought off, and even brought to lips: Can this almighty smart ring handle the different shapes of water body? Because let's face it Oura Ring is made to provide facilities of vital body tracking, meaning it needs to be put into situation where there could be potential threat to its integrity.

In which case what better and daring situation are there than swimming pools and saunas filled with water (not a good foe for electronic devices). So, to put the theory to test let's look at multiple cases where Oura Ring will come into very close contact with water bodies and we will try to see how and if it can handle them?

Information You're Finding!

Oura Rings are water resistant till 100 meters in water for certain period of time. So you can take your ring to shower, sauna, beach, and even swimming pools. But it is recommended to practice caution at each step.

Is Oura Ring Waterproof

Without beating the bush let’s give you the answer: Oura Rings are not waterproof. It never was, and perhaps it never will be, which makes sense. So far we’ve see many smart gadgets which are following the same trend (be it Fitbit Charge 5 or Fossil Gen 5E).

However, just like those devices Oura Rings are water resistant, which means they have a certain limit till which they can tolerate the water body. Now in the case of Oura Rings the limit is little more than what you might see in Apple or Fitbit trackers. It is 100 meters or 330 feet. But, by no means you should abuse your Oura Ring resistivity. If you would then keep in mind your ring could fail.

Oura Ring In Shower? Potential Hazard?

Given the very basic purpose of Oura Ring is to give us vital information about body, it is not a surprise that many wants to take it into shower. Besides, who would want to miss the vital data while they’d be in shower, so you should be able to take into shower, right?

Well, as it happens, you can take your Oura Ring into shower. There is no inherent danger that your smart ring would be in while you’d be in bathroom. Although, there are somethings you should be cautious about, for example: soap, shampoos, and conditioners have a specific type of chemicals within them which – if came into contact – with your Oura Ring might cause harm.

Now you could be wondering if that is the case then shouldn’t we just not take it at all. Well, if you were thinking about it then you are not wrong. However, what we told you above was for caution, even if soap will get mixed with your ring it won’t immediately kill it. But it is better to take extra steps to ensure safety.

“I Will Take My Oura Ring To Sauna

Now Sauna is different kind of beast, it is humid, it is hot, and most importantly it is wet. Personally, I don’t like to go to one, at least not frequently. But for the sake of testing the Oura Ring I did (didn’t like it) but to my surprise the ring fared well.

Although, you will find it interesting to note that Oura (the company which makes these rings) states on their website that Oura Rings shouldn’t be exposed to extreme temperatures (below 32°F / 0°C or above 95°F / 35°C). While the Sauna in which I spent 2 hours had the average room temperature of 150°F / 65°C which means that we can deduce one thing for certain from here: Oura Rings can be worn to Sauna but only for a short period of time.

This statement is further put weightage through the remarks of Oura itself who says that you should be wary of your ring reaction to extreme temperatures and take measures accordingly. Because like a Fitbit tracker which can lose its tolerance with age your Oura Rings can go through the same thing. Leave them unchecked under the extreme temperature and there is huge chance it will end up with battery damage.

Swimming Pools & Oura Ring: Healthy Partnership?

Another common place which many common people like to go is swimming pools. Now here we need to understand something before we jump to conclusions. Not every swimming pool is made the same. Some are too deep. Others are hardly worthy of the word swimming pool. In either case what you should know is that your Oura Ring is perfectly able to handle your average community pool.

The IP68 certification and label of 100 meter tolerance indeed comes to play here and keep your smart ring safe and secure. But, and this is one big but, you shouldn’t play with the fate. You are not supposed to jump to a pool and stay under the water for a long period with your Oura Ring. Because it might work for two or three tries, after a while, you can bet your ring will begin to lose it’s resistive edge and might even succumb to its untimely death.

How To Take Care Of Oura Rings?

There are many ways through which you can protect your Oura Rings. Because, let’s face it Oura Rings like any other accessory or jewelry item which is on our hands is prone to damages. If I talk from my own experience I’ve very bad habit of walking with my phone in my hand all the time. Which quite often leads me smashing it against the doors or even walls.

So if you are someone who as just as clumsy as me or who wants to make sure your smart ring doesn’t fall short soon try out these few methods:

  • Clean the interior of the ring using the damp cloth. You can also use your t-shirt but we would suggest to get something more Oura friendly. This will ensure that there is no dust or debris between your wrist and the ring (might even result in increased efficiency)
  • Always wear your ring on the non-dominant arm, this will ensure you don’t give the Oura many opportunities of colliding with other objects.
  • Don’t wear another ring adjacent to your Oura ring. We don’t want the two scratching the surface of each other.
  • Avoid wearing the ring when you are doing something which includes friction i.e. weight lighting or handling the objects made of metal or steel.

Important Things To Keep Oura Ring Our Ring…

At the end of the day Oura Ring like gold ring or silver ring is just a ring. But what defines it aura is that it can give you vital information about your body. Which won’t happen if you won’t take care of it properly. So, go ahead and take it to showers, saunas, swimming pools, or even beach. But always make sure that you are not putting both yourself and your ring in a situation which can cause harm to both of you.
